About this data

Place of Service is the two-digit code in box 24B of the CMS-1500 that tells the payer where a service happened.

It is small but consequential. POS drives facility versus non-facility reimbursement, so the wrong code is a denial or an underpayment rather than a cosmetic error.

CMS updates the set rarely, every few years, and lists many two-digit numbers as unassigned. We publish only the assigned codes. A page for each unassigned number would say nothing.

We do not display CPT codes. Level I is owned by the American Medical Association and requires a paid licence. Everything on this site is public domain or free to use.
