What this is
ProvidersDesk publishes lookup tools for the code sets medical billers use every day: HCPCS Level II, the Level II modifiers, place of service codes, and the national provider registry.
All of it comes from the body that publishes it. CMS for the code sets and the provider registry, NUCC for provider taxonomy. All of it is public domain, which is why the tools are free and why they will stay free.
Every page carries the date we imported the data. Not a vague promise that we are always current. An actual date, next to the source, so you can decide for yourself whether it is recent enough for what you are about to file.
Who builds it
ProvidersDesk is a project of Scribe Align LLC.
Scribe Align LLC is a medical billing company based in Las Vegas, Nevada. It has handled revenue cycle, coding and credentialing work for practices across more than a hundred specialties for over a decade.
The tools on this site started as internal references for that work. The people who built them look codes up for a living, which is why the pages are shaped the way they are and why every dataset carries the date it was imported.
Worth saying plainly
A billing company publishing billing references is a relationship you should know about rather than discover. So: we do this work commercially, and these tools came out of doing it.
What that does not mean is that the tools are a sales funnel. There is nothing to sign up for here, no quote form, no gated download, and no contact capture behind a lookup. The code sets are public domain and we publish them as they are.
Where a guide expresses a judgment rather than quoting a source, it says so, and it tells you to verify against your own payer. That advice is not boilerplate. Payer rules genuinely differ, and no reference site can know which contract you signed.
How we keep it correct
Each dataset is imported straight from the publisher, never scraped from another site and never retyped. The importer refuses any file that drops more than a few percent below the stored record count, because a truncated download that imports cleanly is the failure mode nobody notices.
Retired codes and deactivated provider records stay visible and marked rather than being deleted. Someone searching for a code they used last year needs to know what happened to it. A blank page answers nothing.
When a dataset passes its expected update window, the page says so in amber instead of quietly serving stale information. You can see the whole position on the data sources page, including anything currently overdue.
What we do not publish
CPT codes. Level I is owned by the American Medical Association and requires a paid license. We do not publish the codes, the descriptors, or the numeric modifiers that belong to that set. If you are looking for a numeric modifier, you want a CPT reference rather than this site.
The same applies to anything else behind a license. Everything here is public domain or free to use, and that boundary is deliberate rather than a limitation we are working around.
Getting in touch
Corrections are the most useful thing you can send. If a code reads wrong, a descriptor looks truncated, or something is out of date, we would rather hear it from you than not.
